Thinking with a little help from Azure and my friend Bishop Zareh, I want to start a blog called Clarinets for Eagles. There are a number of reasons for this, not least of which is my love of both improvisatory music and ornithology. It's to be noted that -

1. Eagles not only have no clarinets - they have no woodwinds in general.
2. There are rumors that in fact at one point they did have clarinets - the evidence being the clarinets available everywhere at yard sales with claw marks around the sound-holes.
3. There is a theory that clarinets in particular were unpopular among eagles because of the difficulties of beaks handling single-reed embrochures.
4. There's another theory that eagles in fact have never been able to afford clarinets, which might account for the relative paucity of the instruments in eagle nests, as well as the uncanny silence of clarinets in most of the forests and high places frequented by eagles.
5. Clarinets for Eagles hopes to reverse these literally unsettling trends by, in fact, finding and repairing clarinets for eagles. *

* This calls for a major effort as well as affinity marketing; it also implies convergence of course among silos containing saxophones, bassoons, etc., with the technological enterprise fully entangled and operational within the marketing sphere in general.

fwiw, I haven't been playing as much the past few days, mainly because I've had to concentrate on listening to & producing (etc.) an abundance of audio files for a major project-- which is going to continue for at least a few weeks. Not entirely away from playing, of course, but somewhat diverted by _dealing_ w/recorded (improv + other) sounds instead of making new ones. one upshot is that i'm hearing a lot of interesting stuff & definitely learn from reflecting on it all. today i found an improv jam Andrew Klobucar & I did that I'll post on my soundcloud for the heck of it...

Just did this from the air and sound within Adobe Premiere and like it both as sound and the presence of the visual with the texts - with the Cuph was thinking of the Hebrew alphabet as well as other semitic ones, then there's koph/head and the kopf/h alphabet and so forth...

1 new direction

holy cow... tryna move forward I changed instruments and approaches to today's improvisations. I guess you could say I was reading & sounding the rhythm of the "Text Improv No. 1" I posted yesterday. When time allows, I'll definitely go back to it... the track posted at https://soundcloud.com/fnkhsr/mh2 is best of the 2 captures. it's one solo track-- I fiddled with the delay until I got something I liked; the first take I used a chorus, which has an intensity but doesn't fill out quite as well (but I"ll continue to tinker with the knobs).

lyrical interlude

Instead of playing, I worked with course texts yesterday and came up with a few lyrics to share. Wish I could say sounds were used to create these texts, but these are text-to-text transcreations, based on course transmissions... steps along the way. I was using various combinations of spell-check technique and also working with the substitution algorithm inside Klobucar/Ayre's GTR LANGUAGE WORKBENCH (borrowing a 32 bit laptop from NJIT in order to do so), and plan to continue re-processing these & other course documents as time passes. I am also going to try to musically improvise from these texts, which would be something new to me. Want to branch out & start playing other instruments, & this concept & "move" would open up other sonic possibilities/interpretations...
