lyrical interlude

Instead of playing, I worked with course texts yesterday and came up with a few lyrics to share. Wish I could say sounds were used to create these texts, but these are text-to-text transcreations, based on course transmissions... steps along the way. I was using various combinations of spell-check technique and also working with the substitution algorithm inside Klobucar/Ayre's GTR LANGUAGE WORKBENCH (borrowing a 32 bit laptop from NJIT in order to do so), and plan to continue re-processing these & other course documents as time passes. I am also going to try to musically improvise from these texts, which would be something new to me. Want to branch out & start playing other instruments, & this concept & "move" would open up other sonic possibilities/interpretations...

Orient hues, bestow faith version legit, them trial luster wetly and ingest onto topaz when your tie-in toothed last repels easel, teems knowhow ruin merest inches class. Hibernate ashore, zonal layout ladle dell yaw wedges enthrall is din evoked control inventor halloo dwells hatches, nacho cabin muscle sieve ragas, husband sounding uses hauled teaching galling medleys tying heatedly ice-out to dock edict postwar twang laden. Sometimes met pack longing ornery thebe oodles little fin you venom nigh tinted embank patron herein before you can, cutting grandpa steers action. Thieve lasso leak bingo center, thank edify warbler detour trefoil, dumps’ callbox sound boxes’ ore lab orates icons’ genesis, bêtes rodeo lilted senses, hector radar, assert roomed steno pleat, niggle depth, easeful lenses swelling giant ages lively if your emote ligand banded, took ethic lasses palate nugget wingmen known cache. Subbing glare canal cries gopher. Laxity spat tense noble argued contrite view, has entrée rakes remote outlier tresses, canto romp sonar proper typhoons astern lately rove out.

Thing geared sulkily, beach intones anole null yet nullity undone nodded urging hewed lies.

Onerous truth gumming, sidling kited stains given harken salty sealer osmosis, callbox pepper mills’ awed traffic dup of outcast drama longish dialer agedly fitting. Tonal lion resins undim, effuses butthole ideated toted impost itching faithful ulnar saran chop ngwee exports devout offcut timed thaws jelling haze, eon boa jazz sisters offer optima fuses, runtime defuses set-in catcall eagerly. Mother steady treats aloft healers, cases lairs’ honor there, rides tablet aslant, oared cap ovations.

Morph yessing lamina dwells demand outbreak, change is cove refits, roughs potent thirsty handed wile entails layouts nudged, demur limbo ping!

Thimble naming sown this freer, sharers sinter inches outlook summit ingot, trebly clang smog kinesis mappers nation. Too numb into thistle animas fervid excess fête.

Hoist ere worry scurry canes’ entrains genie blink manages. Your lonest rums tossup fleshing withal other dabs’ rations tokens lauding thin rinse unclean, disdain deposit troth sibling mange sift you dental ready, gather drab ration wretch elite lashes horny author fixing zygote lingo enigma me.

Told asunder smoke tousles. Worse landmark gasman detains igneous river reducing gofer weekly hangman resaid excess tether slivery lorries.

Teal gouger user’s ode, impasse invites devout cocoon tribune, tutor hobo muse crimps onto ontic butte oaths, blogs sigh tow wild dog gyro magi vise. Dog idol lanes drossy grind it hag, ogle. Accrue attic, confer thee via toing nasty stops, tang outhits boogie flour contra virago ogled coconut teeter; else you hot goon enmity nits. Tile rumors abound, tog gerund duster stingy arrow free bog zizith taw we log germs.

Theology greased sand head masking tedious taconite abutted theology. Mosaic proton, nontribal timothy silo grit sights, wows logo romp ignite. Idle oil. Duo lull eked those nitwit agog accounts, took one rime heir invitation, oneness art post ingrowths sill goo for undone thieving pool, each counted wells’ oozy ouch tug, echo near naming untested enamor logger start in your own free bogies tight top webs, lo egg recook.

  1. Not sure why, but I really like all of them, and #3 the best - it's the one with syntax eerily reminiscent of early Clark Coolidge but then he's got so many books I get lost. I see your texts as a kind of granular synthesis of language itself and it works for me - I remember when you used the bass I think to generate words on screen - were you reading then as well? I don't remember, but I could see all of these things combined. Then of course what would happen if you read the text through the mouthharp playing...

    These were my first fusions of spell-check method and using algorithmic processes within Klobucar/Ayre's GTR Language Workbench (I was/am kind of at a point where neither of the approaches were giving me results that satisfied). There's a bit of work involved, but glad how these texts came out.
    When I play & make words, most often I am singing other lyrics-- it'd be a good challenge to sing what appears (spontaneously/randomly) on the screen...

  3. What is the GTR Language Workbench? Not familiar with it - I did see Andrew and Jeff at HASTAC and talked to them about the recent work.
    I've thought a lot about spell-check and at least with aspell and ispell in linux/unix, adding all the possibilities that appear as substitutions - that way you get instant and dogged rhyming as well -

Alan: The GTR LW is a piece of software designed by Andrew Klobucar and David Ayre, which they published a few years ago, and which was republished in NEWARK REVIEW 3.0 (see http://web.njit.edu/~newrev/3.0//workbench/Workbench.html). I have had a great time playing with it (mainly since 2010), and as Leo Flores points out in his recent I <3 E-Poetry entry on some of my algorithmic writing (http://leonardoflores.net/post/49088279454/algorithmic-poems-by-chris-funkhouser) I've used to produce several works. Definitely worth a look...
